It is a scary thought that fishing has caused populations of fish to become nearly extinct. I also did not know that dynamite was used to fish in the Philippines, and it is terrible how it destroys the coral reefs. Cyanide Poisoning is also terrible. Whatever happened to nets or fishing poles? It appears that intervention globally needs to occur or extinction of many species of fish is forseeable.
I had never heard of dynamite fishing. How horrible is this. It is destroying fish and reefs. I wonder the effect of cyanide poisoning on the different forms of life. I enjoyed this presentation.
I really liked your presentation. I used to be a member of the Billfish Foundation. This organization promoted the catch and release of these large game fish. I truly believe that the only fish that should be removed from our oceans are schooling fish that are abundant. Overfishing is a huge problem and an even bigger problem are the methods commercial fishermen are using as you stated in your presentation. I am shocked to learn of cyanide poisoning and dynamite fishing. The thought of these methods actually makes me feel ill!
Great presentation. You know, it's so funny how people can take something that is a serious issue, like fishing, and capitalize on it! For example, shows like "Deadliest Catch" don't ever tell you about how the great numbers of aquatic life that they are harvesting is affecting the ecosystems that they come from. The shows are mostly focused on the amount of money made. The people who work on the fishing boats have a rough go of it, but what about the environment?
Incredible. In our little world it is easy to not know these things. To most, fish harvesting simply means nets and boats and even though they can be harmful, they do not compare to the several other much more detrimental methods you have exposed such as the use of dynamite and cyanide poisoning. Thank you for enlightening me.
